BRIEF BIO OF REV. ROBERT BRANCH
Our new interim pastor Robert Branch was born in Pennsylvania but grew up just outside Chicago. During his Chicago years he was active in the Reformed Church of America (the old Dutch Reformed Church) and went to Hope College, one of that denomination’s colleges. In college he married a New Englander and eventually they moved back to Massachusetts where he completed his seminary studies at Boston University School of Theology.
He was ordained in 1976 in the Congregational denomination and for 21 years served churches in Connecticut and Massachusetts. In 1993, he made a career jump and became a photojournalist, and five years later joined his present home church, Immanuel Baptist in Ipswich. His orders were recognized by TABCOM in 2008. After retiring from the newspaper work, he returned to the pastoral ministry, serving as interim at West Roxbury’s Stratford Street United Church, and West Acton Baptist.
Rob and his wife Judy have been married 20 years and bring two children each to their marriage. They also have five grandchildren. Judy is a Gordon-Conwell Seminary graduate and served many years as youth minister in Rowley, where they live.
Pastor Rob will be here on Sundays for worship service and Bible study and on most Tuesdays from around 8 am to mid-afternoon. Some weeks he will be attending evening meetings so his day in the office will change.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as interim for Avon Baptist Church,” he said. “We can trust that God will make his plans known to us in the days and months ahead. And as Jesus promised, he is always with us.”
